Learning is the New Rock

Yeah! Go Rock Ed!

I love radio. I do.
Sometimes, I like it more than television.
Especially when I'm stuck in a long traffic jam.

What I like about radio the most is that there we are that perfectly notched market for it.
Our market (ABC1) is very much deprived of quality entertainment on TV.
I mean, do you watch Tayong Dalawa? Really?
Yes, MTV, ETC, and Q are there. But I'm not a fashionista! ETC Vibe? No thanks.

I listen to the radio shows in the morning.
I listen going home.
And I listen late at night.

But the BEST and I mean the BEST Radio Show out there.
Is, well it used to be, in NU107.5
No, it's not Pearl Jam 101 or Metallica Week.
It's a show called Rock Ed Radio.

Lourd de Veyra: poet, writer, musician, co-host of Rock Ed Radio

Rock Ed Radio started as the Rock Ed Series.
It was an educational outreach program supporting school's curricula.
Young professionals spend their time at youth activities for a good cause.
Singers would visit schools for concerts or fund drives.
Writer Gang Badoy started this.

Her main objective was to find to make the young Filipino more interested.
Through alternative ways, make us aware of socio-civic realities of life.

In May 2007, this campaign was fueled when NU107.5 offered them a slot for a show.
It was to be entitled an alternative social studies class at Sunday Nights 8-9pm.

Gang Badoy, the chick in between Eli Buendia and Raymund Marasigan lang naman.

For two years, Rock Ed Radio featured Gang and Lourd, in all their intellectual glory, engaged in insightful, honest, comprehensive and real topics the youth is interested in.

Topics ranged from NPA prisoners, reporoductive health bills, Martial Law partying, college depression, gay activists, international students, indie music, theater actors, Brian Gorrel's blog, Scientology, peace corps and emoism.

The guests made it interesting. Daming contacts siguro ni Gang.

The show abruptly ended in April 2009. When an episode about the Punk scene in Manila aired, the lead singer of Juan Pablo Dream uttered fuck so many times it was unavoidable.

Si Gang ang babae, Si Lourd ang lalaki

So they went off the air for a while. Now they're back.
Show you support for Rock Ed Radio now on its new home.
